Reimagining Your Space

Established in 2018 in Melbourne, SLOW Design Studio specialises in thoughtful design solutions tailored for contemporary living. My goal is to create spaces that resonate with the essence of who you are.

Vision

The underlying current that supports my passion for interior design is the Slow Movement philosophy. This approach emphasises thoughtful curation, quality craftsmanship and mindful consumption, which allows me to create spaces that are beautiful and sustainable. It's about prioritising timeless pieces, natural materials and a connection to nature in order to foster a sense of calm and well-being and to bring order to our often chaotic lives.

My Principles of Slow Design

Prioritising Quality over Quantity -

Instead of following trends and accumulating fleeting items, the slow design approach encourages the use of well-made, durable pieces that will last for years to come. This might mean choosing one new high-quality item that becomes a focal point in the room, or reusing your existing pieces in new and creative ways.  Inherited items passed down through generations bring meaning and grounds you to people and places. Choosing to honour cherished items that have a story and a connection will make your space feel like home.

Embracing Natural Materials and Textures -

Incorporating natural materials like timber, stone, clay, cork, linen and wool brings a sense of warmth, texture, and connection to the outdoors. These materials often have a timeless quality and can age beautifully, developing a unique patina over time.

Creating a Calm and Personalized Space -

My slow design approach creates a space that is tailored to your individual needs and preferences, rather than following a specific style. It's about curating a collection of your personal items that evoke a sense of calm, comfort and joy, rather than trying to create a perfect, impersonal space.

Championing Biophilic Design

Biophilic design is an approach to architecture that seeks to connect the individual more closely to nature.  During the planning phase of a project, whether it is a new build or an extension to the home, I like to consider elements such as natural lighting and ventilation, natural landscape features, the presence of water, and other elements to create a connection to the outdoors and foster a more productive and healthy built environment.

Supporting Local and Sustainable Practices -

Choosing furniture and decor from local artisans and businesses can reduce the environmental impact of shipping and support the local economy. Purchasing vintage or second hand items, choosing pieces made from recycled materials, and reusing or repurposing existing items supports a more environmentally conscious home.

Focusing on Functionality and Longevity -

Slow design emphasises thoughtful planning and choosing items that serve a purpose and will be useful for years to come. It's about creating a space that is both beautiful and practical, with furniture and decor that is functional and adaptable to changing needs.

By embracing these principles, I can create a home for you that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also contributes to a more mindful, sustainable, and meaningful way of living.
